Neuromodulators or “Botox” is one of the most common aesthetic treatments done. It has been in this industry for over 20 years. They are known primarily for their ability to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, being the eyes, forehead and between the eyebrows the most common areas. Moreover, it is used to treat other issues such as neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder and lazy eye.
These injections apply a toxin known as onabotulinumtoxin or abobotulinumtoxin to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving, thus decreasing wrinkles from being apparent.
Botox and Dysport are a bit different from each other, especially when it comes to dosage units, so they are not interchangeable. Here at AMIS MedSpa we mostly use Dysport and Botox Cosmetic as these have been giving consistent and predictable results in more than 96% of our patients.
Anyone, males, females, young and older patients, can have this treatment done. If you desire to enhance your natural beauty, reduce fine lines, wrinkles or just prevent them from forming then you need a personal consultation to determine if this is the correct treatment for you. Even some teens need this due to hyperhidrosis or other concerns.
We use Botox or Dysport to successfully reduce fine lines, wrinkles, folds and even some medical conditions like:
Forehead lines
Glabella (between eyebrows) lines
Crows feet
Gummy smile
Smoker’s lines
Downturn of corners of the mouth
Crepey skin (on cheek, neck, chest etc..)
Neck tightening
TMJ pain
Facial slimming
Upper lid lift
Lip volume
Bunny lines
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of underarms)
Migraines or headaches
Neck or upper shoulder pain
Acne control
Usually just one session is enough. We always recommend a second visit in 14 days to assess the area and to do any dose adjustments or touch up as needed.
This process needs to be repeated every 3-4 months to keep results. Luckily when the patient keeps up with their treatment, less units and better results they get.
After each treatment, patients should avoid friction of the treated area, as well as any massage, make-up and touching the area in general for the next 4-6 hours. Patients should neither practice sports in 24 hours following the procedure. It is suggested to gesticulate with the treated area in an exaggerated way during the next 4 hours after the treatment to help the distribution and harmony of the area. Last but not least, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
Results are natural and subtle, and will start to be noticeable in 5-7 days after treatment. Depending on the matter being treated, the effect may last from 3 to 4 months or longer. To maintain the effect, patients will need regular follow-up injections.
Microtox is an advanced technique used only at AMIS MedSpa to straighten crepey skin and even smooth out small fine lines in areas where Botox can only be used very superficially. We may use Botox Cosmetic or Dysport for this procedure.
Usually this is done in one session, however we recommend a 2 week follow up to determine a dose adjustment or touch up. This has to be repeated every 4 months on average to keep results.
Microtox is a special technique which mostly gives instant results and is optimal at 2 weeks post treatment. Most patients that we have treated with this technique can appreciate results as soon as the same day or in 24 hours.
The recovery after a microtox treatment can vary depending on the person and the extent of the treatment. In general, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure and not to rub or exfoliate the treated skin for at least 24 hours after the treatment. Just like with any other treatment with Botox and Dysport, patients must avoid having any facials, facial massage or excessive friction and rubbing on the face for the first week but more importantly the first 6 hours after the procedure has been done. Make up can be applied about 6 hours after the treatment.
